April 7, 2026
Let's wrap up the school year right!
With spring around the corner and the academic year wrapping up, we have a few helpful reminders and updates to share. From community expectations to upcoming services and resources, here’s what you need to know this month.
Keeping the Community Comfortable
As the weather warms up, windows are more likely to be open and there tends to be increased activity in shared and outdoor spaces. We kindly ask tenants and guests to be mindful of neighbours and help keep our community comfortable for everyone.
Please reduce music, gatherings and other noise that may travel between units. Being considerate, especially in the evening and overnight, helps maintain a respectful living environment where everyone can rest, study and feel at home.
Smoke-Free Campus Reminder
Western University is a smoke-free campus. Smoking is not permitted indoors or outdoors within the community and individuals may be subject to consequences for violating this policy.
Designated smoking areas are located in the southwest corner of the Rental Office parking lot at Platt’s Lane and near the Windermere Bridge by Bayfield Hall.
Need Additional Vehicle Parking?
At this time, tenants residing in Platt’s Lane Estates, Beaver and Ausable Hall remain eligible to request one additional vehicle per lease. Requests for a second vehicle may be submitted at least two business days in advance by emailing western.apartments@uwo.ca.
Effective May 1, 2026, the registration rate for an additional vehicle will be $350 plus HST for a 12-month period.
A Quick Tenant Insurance Reminder
As a reminder, Western Housing provides insurance coverage for all tenants with an active lease in on-campus apartments. This coverage is arranged through Marsh Insurance and includes:
- Personal belongings (contents coverage): $10,000, with an additional $2,500
- Personal liability coverage: $1,000,000
This insurance is intended to protect your personal property as well as damage or loss that may occur as a result of your actions or inaction.
Tenants may also choose to purchase additional renters insurance at their own expense if they wish. More information about your coverage and policy details can be found online.
Take Part in the Spring Clean Up
Stop by Western’s Furniture Depot this month. Students will be dropping off used furniture and small appliances that others are welcome to take for free.
Look for the purple shipping containers on the east lawns of Platt’s Lane Estates and Alumni House. The Furniture Depot will be open daily from 10:00 a.m.–4:00 p.m. until April 19 and 24 hours a day from April 20–May 3.
For large amounts of garbage, 40-yard bins will be available at Platt’s Lane Estates and Bayfield Hall starting April 20. Please use these bins for bulk refuse only and continue to consider sustainability by sorting materials appropriately and ensuring recycling is disposed of correctly.
If you have questions, contact Off-Campus Housing at 519-661-3550.
Hosting Guests this Summer?
Western Summer Accommodations is open from May 7 to August 22, exclusively for Western students and their referred guests. It’s a great option if you have family or friends visiting and need a place to stay on campus.
